Pre-baby the bottleneck in my blogging process was taking photographs. After the photos were taken I would usually blog the garment immediately. These days, my bottleneck is definitely the writing and blogging part. We took these photos a few weeks ago and I’m finally getting around to post it!
There are some major benefits to sewing with very limited free time. I use to spend most of my time debating which fabric to use with which pattern, and then never got around to making anything. But now that I have such little free time, I just choose a fabric and a pattern, start cutting, and hope for the best! Additionally, beforehand I would rarely use my ‘nice’ fabric, which are fabrics I either really really like or were very expensive. But now I no longer care! If I like the fabric, I should use it instead of letting it go to waste! Sounds so simple, but it use to hold me up so much.
Ok, let’s get past those introductory thoughts. I’ve never enjoyed the writing part of blogging so I’m mostly going to let the pictures do the ‘talking’ in my upcoming posts. As I mentioned at the end of my last post, I have an obsession with the StyleArc patterns available on Amazon (they’re on sale right now too! 25% off with code SAR25OCT). This is my version of the Esme knit top a wonderfully comfortable top with a flattering funnel neck. Even better, it’s SUPER easy to make. I think I cut out the fabric and completely finished the top all in one nap!
I have two complaints. The first is that the armscye is low (see below). And the second is that the collar and extended shoulders make it hard to wear a cardigan over this top. Yet the recommended fabrics are heavier knits. Basically, I’m not sure what season this is optimal for. Nevertheless, I’ve already worn in a few times and it probably won’t deter me too much :)
Otherwise, I really love this top. It’s very comfortable and I’ve gotten many compliments on it at work. Everyone loves the collar and people have also commented that it is flattering on me. After seeing these pictures I’m not sure I agree, but I know my colleagues at work are smart people so I have to trust them! :)
I definitely recommend this top! I’m currently looking through my stash to find a fabric right to make another with sleeves.
AND I accidentally bought this pattern from Amazon in the 18-30 size range before getting the pattern in the smaller sizes. So if anyone (living in the US) wants the pattern please leave a message here or email me directly and I’ll happily mail it to you – first to contact me gets it!
